If you are one of the lucky ones then there is no need to keep reading… but given that studies show the majority of women experience some form of PMS during their cycle then you are probably more like me and ride the hormonal waves with mood swings as deep as the ocean so you should totally stay with me 😉

Now some of us are more blessed than others but PMS can include bloating, cramping, constipation/diarrhoea, drop in libido (umm who he heck wants to make love when you’re bleeding anyway?) anxiety, brain fog, confusion, poor concentration (its really not a great time for focussed activities right #yafeelme), acne, hot flushes, cravings, headaches, migraines, increased appetite, mood swings, irritability not to mention highly emotional and sensitive and possible swollen/tender boosies!

So what is an essential oil and how might they help? Well when you first crack open a bottle, you instantly notice that the smell is very potent. The physical and chemical properties of the volatile aromatic compounds that compose essential oils allow them to quickly move through the air and directly interact with the olfactory sensors in our nose (uh hullo divine aromas!). Such unique properties make essential oils ideal for maintaining a healthy mind and body. The type of volatile aromatic compounds present in an essential oil determines both the oil’s aroma and the benefits it offers.

+ Clary Sage

Clary Sage is a really beautiful oil and a must have for any woman! I literally use this baby every single day, call me cray cray but I just frickin’ love her. Did you know that in the Middle Ages, the Clary Sage plant was frequently used to soothe skin? Yep, WOW!

Ok so Clary Sage is a biennial or perennial herb that is known for its ability to promote harmony and a sense of balance. She is an anticonvulsant, nerve tonic, sedative, is soothing and warming. Clary Sage is commonly used for abdominal cramps, endometriosis, hormone balance & emotional regulation, hot flashes, mood swings… you get my drift!! The main chemical component of Clary Sage is ‘linalyl acetate’, making it one of the most relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oils – umm where do I get me some right?! She can also be used to commence milk production for breastfeeding mamas, postpartum depression and pre menopause. Annnnd, if you inhale this little goddess she will promote feelings of relaxation and will promote a restful night’s sleep. Now if you aren’t a lover of lavender (which every second person seems to be) then this can be your go-to – winning!!

During your cycle massage a few drops directly on your abdomen. You can add a few drops into your diffuser and my favourite way is to add a couple of drops into your bath with some epsom salts. #goodbyecrazybiatchhellodivinegoddess

*Note: If you are pregnant or planning/trying for a baby it is recommended that Clary Sage be avoided. Please consult your physician.

+ ClaryCalm

This beautiful blend is specifically designed to provide a soothing and calming effect during your cycle as well as helping to balance the ol’ moods and soothe heightened emotions (hullo!).

ClaryCalm is a topical blend of Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex.

For a soothing and calming massage apply a couple of drops directly to your abdomen (remember to always dilute with a carrier oil for any skin sensitivities). You can apply by rolling onto the back of the neck or soles of the feet to help cool and soothe the body. You can also chuck a couple drops into your diffuser to help calm funk down.

+ Digest Zen

This little baby is in my top 5 oils of all time. Say goodbye to bloating!! DigestZen is our “tummy tamer” blend due to its ability to aid in digestion, soothe occasional stomach upset, and maintain overall digestive health. This unique blend contains Ginger, Fennel, and Coriander to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, including motion sickness and indigestion, while Peppermint, Tarragon, Anise, and Caraway aid with digestion and help maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract. DigestZen is great to have on hand when stomach upset occurs and is safe and effective. Simple massage 1-2 drops with some carrier oil onto your stomach or add 1-2 drops into your water or a cup of peppermint/herbal tea.
